Our Beacons were shining during Spring ACE Day! As a we finish out the semester, Students presented thoughtful research, creative projects, and inspiring ideas, highlighting the depth of learning happening across campus. Well done, Beacons!

What began as an unfamiliar internship opportunity became part of a defining journey for Avery Lenssen’s future career path. As a senior business administration major, Avery is wrapping up her spring internship with @onehopelanecounty , where she gained hands-on experience in nonprofit work for the first time. From managing social media and editing newsletters to coordinating events and building relationships within the local community, she developed strong skills in communication, adaptability, and organization. One of her most impactful experiences was leading promotional efforts for the United Youth event. “I did all the social media… the promoting of this event,” she said. “Then to be able to go to that event and see all the kids worshiping and just praying over each other and for their schools was so cool.” While Avery originally envisioned a career in event planning, her internship, and her experience serving families affected by flooding in her hometown of Lynden, Washington, shifted her direction. She now plans to pursue disaster relief planning, with plans to attend EMT school and has already secured a role as head of disaster relief coordination in her hometown. We tuned in to ACTG 212: Principles of Accounting II as Professor Hartzell continued to guide students through everything from job order costing to budgeting, all while keeping the energy high with plenty of jokes and banter along the way.
