Jan Welch started teaching at Bushnell as adjunct faculty in the summer of 2016, progressed to part-time education in 2017 and has held a full-time teaching position since summer 2018. She teaches online in the RN to BSN and MSN programs. She completed her bachelor of science in nursing at the University of Minnesota in 1977. Her area of clinical expertise is acute care medical-surgical nursing where she has worked as a staff and charge registered nurse. She has also worked as a staff clinical educator and as an inpatient and outpatient nurse diabetes educator. In addition, she has many years of experience as a nurse case manager where she focused on discharge planning and safe patient care transitions. She is a member of the American Nurses Association and Sigma Pi Delta Nursing Honor Society.
Jan began teaching nursing upon completion of her graduate studies at the University of Minnesota in 1981. She has experience teaching a variety of nursing courses including health promotion, acute and chronic illness nursing and integrative practicum, pathophysiology and pharmacology. Jan also has experience teaching clinical nursing skills in a lab setting, including the use of simulation in nursing. While teaching at Lane Community College School of Nursing she focused on acute medical-surgical nursing care settings including cardiac, medicine, post-surgical and oncology. She has a special interest in curriculum development and student assessment activities.
