Assistant Professor of Music

M.M., University of Oregon
B.A., William Jessup University

Nathan Poehlke arrived at Bushnell in 2020. He teaches the core music theory and ear training curriculum, all composition and arranging courses, as well as the Bushnell Jazz Ensemble and Chamber Ensemble. Nathan loves to see students begin to believe they can take their love of music and hone their craft to a professional level, second to none.

Nathan has written compositions performed by Eastman’s New Jazz Ensemble, the U.S. Navy Commodores Jazz Ensemble as the YCS winner for 2020, been featured as an arranger in Downbeat magazine, and directs a 17-piece jazz ensemble that performs regularly around the Pacific Northwest. In 2019, Nathan began a regular publishing contract through iJazzMusic.com, an internationally distributing jazz publishing company. Recent albums include “Live at Bernardoni,” for solo guitar and guitar/vocal duet, and “Further Up and Further In,” for jazz nonet.

Nathan loves the dark, damp, Pacific Northwest and his home turf of British Columbia. Nathan and his wife April have one daughter, Vieve, and one dog, Juno.
