• Flexible schedule: Seamlessly integrate your education into your busy schedule by taking courses on campus two nights per week and completing the program over two years.

• Hybrid learning: We deliver courses in person, with classes held in the evening. You can also take summer courses in an online and hybrid format, and your student teaching takes place during the spring semester and aligns with regular PK-12 teacher contract hours.

• Two education major tracks: Choose the major that aligns with your professional interests and career goals: Elementary Education or Secondary Education.

• Field experience: Put what you study in the classroom into practice in 1,000-plus hours of field experience and learn from caring faculty with expertise in a K-12 school setting. This real-world training prepares you to work with state standards and benchmarks.

• Preliminary licensure: The Evening Undergrad Teacher Education program leads to a preliminary teaching license at either the elementary or secondary level. You can complete the program within six semesters, and each cohort begins Summer Session 2 (July).

Curriculum 

Designed to equip beginning teachers with the tools to run a classroom, our program accelerates professional growth while nurturing their faith. Students who graduate with their bachelor’s in teacher education from Bushnell have a well-rounded skill set and the ability to:

• Show academic competence in the subjects they are to teach
• Exemplify professional communication (speaking, writing, listening) and technology skills
• Apply a working knowledge of effective classroom management and the skills of teaching
• Motivate students with hands-on, action-based learning opportunities
• Demonstrate the ethical and professional responsibilities of teachers and an understanding of the teacher’s role as a leader in the community

B.S. in Teacher Education (Evening Undergrad Program) Admissions

To apply to the Evening Undergrad Teacher Education program at Bushnell University, submit the following materials:

• A free application for admission.
• Official transcripts showing completion of a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university, with a minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.75.
• A statement of purpose (two to three pages, double-spaced) that clearly indicates career history, professional goals and professional guiding principles.
• Current résumé.
• One letter of recommendation that specifically addresses the academic ability, work performance and character of the applicant.
• Two Disposition Assessments.
• Personal interview with the Admissions Committee.
• An official test score on the TOEFL (a minimum score of 550 on the paper test and a minimum score of 213 on the computer test) for applicants from non-English-speaking countries.

All teacher education majors must apply to the School of Education, ensuring they’ve met the following requirements before applying:

• Admission to Bushnell University
• Completion of approximately 60 semester credits

Tuition and Financial Aid

Bushnell aims to make education accessible by offering a multitude of financial aid options to incoming students. In addition, we strive to ensure that our academic programs remain affordable without sacrificing quality. 

Per-semester cost of attendance for the two-year teaching degree program is as follows:

• Cost per credit: $495
• Housing & Food: $5,650
• Books & Supplies: $35 per credit
• Personal: $700
• Transportation: $700
• Tech Fee: $150
